Found in the Betoota's cosmopolitan French Quarter, The Afghan Playhouse is one of Australia’s most distinguished and beloved theatre companies. Since 1974, when a group of 12 incredibly wealthy theatre-lovers came together to buy an asbestos-riddled courthouse to save it from becoming an apartment block, The Afghan Playhouse has been at the forefront of Channel Country story telling. Each year the company presents an annual season of shows for this now-iconic Branlette Stage. New work and new stories sit at the centre The Playhouse's programming, alongside a mix of revamped classics for high schoolers, international writing, and a lasting commitment to turning a profit. In short, The Playhouse is about modern theatricality, an open society, and faith in humanity.
